Filmmaker Lynn Corcoran released a documentary in 1996 that tracked the binational impact of a series of environmental issues along the U.S.-Mexico border. From the failure of binational water management in Tijuana/San Diego, to air pollution in Juárez/El Paso, to the impacts of maquiladoras and industry in Tamaulipas on public health, water, and soil in Mexico and the Rio Grande Valley, Corcoran’s film shows that environmental issues don’t stop at the border. Borderline Cases also shows how activists and researchers were working together at the time to address these same issues. Come revisit this documentary with us and reflect on the past and future of cross-border collaboration around threats to our shared water, soil and public health.
Join South Texas Environmental Justice Network, Dr. Andrzej Baginski, and ENTRE for a film screening and discussion on April 9th at 7:00 PM at Buho Bookstore in Brownsville.
