Organizations will Protest Trump’s Border Bouys in the Rio Grande in Brownsville, TX
Port Isabel, TX — On Thursday, February 26, Rio Grande Valley organizations and residents from across the Texas border region will host a protest at Alice Wilson Hope Park in Brownsville, TX, at 3:30 PM against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) installing border buoys.
The protest will urge DHS to stop installing buoys in the Rio Grande immediately and to remove the buoys already installed in the river near Brownsville, TX, and Eagle Pass, TX (which contain state buoys). Attendees of the protest will also demand that public officials who represent border communities respond to the anti-border buoy letter and condemn the border buoys. The Cameron County commission will vote on a resolution opposing the border buoys this Tuesday, Feb 26, during their court meeting, and border residents will demand that other officials follow. The protest will include speakers from Brownsville, Eagle Pass, and other border communities. There will be artistic visuals such as banners, signs, and an anti-border buoy piñata. The Rio Grande Valley organizations co-hosting the protest include the South Texas Environmental Justice Network, Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe of Texas, Voces Unidas, Entre, Frontera Fund, #NoBorderWall Coalition, Trucha RGV, Sunrise RGV, Food Not Bombs RGV, and Texas Youth Activist Alliance.
