South Texas Environmental Justice Network, in partnership with the Carrizo Comecrudo Tribe of Texas, is hosting a live concert for living things on Boca Chica Beach. This Thursday, March 5, we will gather on Boca Chica Beach to say “not another inch of the beach for SpaceX” and to listen to the premiere of Carmen Castillo’s Corrido de Boca Chica, along with other musical performances: B11CE and Etienne Rosas.
Boca Chica Beach, the poor people’s beach and sacred to Indigenous people, is being actively taken over by Elon Musk in such a short amount of time. Here’s the proposed SpaceX takeover of our Boca Chica Beach that we must resist:
- U.S. Fish & Wildlife plans to give SpaceX about 712 acres of beach wildlife habitat.
- Elon Musk’s Company town, “Starbase,” plans to annex about 7,000 acres in Boca Chica, which is a disgusting land grab.
- SpaceX enthusiasts are petitioning to rename Boca Chica Beach to the heinous name of “Cyber Beach.”
- Rio Grande Valley residents, Texans, and the Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe of Texas are losing access to Boca Chica Beach due to highway closures for SpaceX. We are suing the State of Texas over access to Boca Chica beach.
- For years, Rio Grande Valley residents have suffered from their homes cracking and shaking from explosions during SpaceX rocket testing. SpaceX has burned down more than 60 acres of wildlife habitat, illegally dumped polluted water on the beach and bay, and is damaging the communities and coastline in Mexico. We say, “not another inch of our beach for SpaceX.”
