To the Cameron County Commission,
On June 2nd, the Cameron County commissioners tabled a vote on a multi-million-dollar tax break for Saronic Technologies. The citizens of Brownsville urge our county commissioners to listen to the community members who oppose this tax break. I am emailing you today to ask that each of you reject the tax abatement agreement with the billion-dollar company Saronic Technology. This corporation has flaunted its worth of 9.25 billion dollars on its website; it is unjust for them to request a 95% tax abatement.
To me, it does not matter whether this company chooses to leave the Port of Brownsville, because these ships will disrupt and harm our marine life; think of the fishing business the Port of Brownsville already has.
Saronic has already received a $228 million tax break from the Point Isabel school district and has only promised 50 jobs; this is just bad business. This corporation is traveling to various cities across the nation to see which town has representatives who can be easily fooled into accepting its ridiculous tax-break request.
