This month, you can submit two comments to the federal regulator about your concerns and opposition to SpaceX and LNG in the Rio Grande Valley.
Rio Grande LNG public comments due August 31, 2026.
Send your comment opposing the expansion of this dangerous fossil fuel industry, Rio Grande LNG. Rio Grande LNG, a methane gas facility under construction along HWY 48 near Port Isabel, wants to expand the facility to process more gas. This Rio Grande LNG expansion would release more toxic pollution into the RGV’s air and habitat and worsen climate change.

Subject: Reject the permit for Rio Grande LNG Docket No. CP26-532-000
[personal message here]
I urge the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to reject the expansion permit Docket No. CP26-532-000 for Rio Grande LNG because there is tremendous opposition to the LNG projects. The communities of South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Laguna Vista, Long Island Village, and Laguna Heights oppose the LNG projects because they would destroy wildlife habitat, damage the fishing & shrimping economy, and threaten public safety. The Point Isabel Independent School District (PIISD) rejected a tax abatement for Rio Grande LNG because of local opposition against the project.
FERC must also extend the comment period to 90 days, provide a public hearing, and provide Spanish translation and interpretation for our low-income people of color community. Additionally, we demand a full environmental impact statement (EIS) on the risks and dangers posed by nearby SpaceX operations, as well as the environmental damage and harm to our community.
Sincerely,

Re: Waiver of Specified Statutory Requirements for Commercial Space Launch and Reentry Actions
Dear Administrator,
[General Comments – See Example Below]
I am writing to submit my formal opposition to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) proposed rulemaking that seeks to waive thirteen federal statutory requirements, primarily critical environmental protections, for commercial space launch and re-entry operations.
My opposition is rooted in two primary areas of concern:
- Severe Environmental Degradation and Lack of Oversight
The proposal to bypass thirteen foundational federal statutes takes away necessary regulatory guardrails. Environmental review processes, such as those mandated by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), and Clean Water Act (CWA), are not arbitrary bureaucratic hurdles. Instead, they are vital mechanisms for assessing the impacts of harm. Waiving these statutes creates an unacceptable oversight vacuum, which will leave frontline communities and fragile habitats vulnerable to unmitigated industrial harm.
- Elimination of Critical Liability and Legal Recourse
By dismantling these statutory frameworks, the proposed rule severely undermines the ability of private citizens, local governments, and property owners to seek legal accountability or sue for liability in the event of environmental contamination, property damage, or long-term health impacts. Forcing communities to bear the physical and financial risks of commercial space operations, while also stripping them of standard legal remedies, is unjust.
[Conclusion – See Example Below]
In conclusion, public safety, environmental preservation, and the constitutional right to legal recourse must remain paramount. We cannot abandon environmental protections and liability standards. I strongly urge the FAA to withdraw this proposal and maintain strict statutory oversight for all commercial space operations.
Thank you for your time and consideration of these critical concerns.
Sincerely,
