MEDIA ADVISORY: Residents Will Pack the Brownsville City Commission Meeting to Oppose AI Data Centers
Brownsville, TX — Today, Brownsville residents and organizations will pack the November 4 City of Brownsville Commission Meeting to voice their opposition to AI Data centers and demand a full 180-day moratorium on data centers. The city will host a public hearing on data centers during today’s meeting at 4:00 PM at City Hall, 1001 E Elizabeth St., Brownsville, TX, and make the second and final vote on the data center moratorium.
Since July, Brownsville residents have packed many Brownsville City Commission meetings to oppose data centers because they will use massive amounts of water, pollute the air, and cause horrifying noise pollution. The City’s data center public hearing on Nov. 4 will also discuss the Environmental Task Force, which will draft data-center ordinances. Residents will make it clear they want Carolyn Wood, a SpaceX employee, removed from the task force because the Elon Musk corporation is connected to data center development. They will also demand the City commit to passing a full 180-day moratorium; to date, the city has pushed forward with a minimum 90-day moratorium.
When:
Wednesday, November 4 at 4:00 PM at Brownsville City Hall – 1001 E Elizabeth St., Brownsville, TX
