Brownsville Organizations will lead a Film Screening and Panel Discussion on the impacts of SpaceX in the Rio Grande Valley
BROWNSVILLE, TX — On Friday, April 11th, the South Texas Environmental Justice Network, Nuestra Delta Magica, and the 956 Radical Library will host a film screening and panel discussion on the impacts of Space X on Boca Chica, Brownsville, and the rest of the Rio Grande Valley. The event will be hosted at the Buho Bookstore from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, located at 1140 E Washington St., Brownsville, TX.
This event will start with the screening of a 20-minute film about SpaceX’s presence in Brownsville, produced by More Perfect Union, which includes captions in Spanish. Following the film, there will be a one-hour panel discussion focusing on the impacts of SpaceX on housing, the environment, and sacred lands in the Rio Grande Valley. The speakers on the panel will include a local investigative journalist who has written extensively on Space X and Boca Chica, Gaige Davila. Marisa Perales is an environmental attorney and will speak about legal actions regarding public access to Boca Chica Beach and SpaceX permit applications. Lastly, the Tribal Chairman of the Carrizo Comecrudo Tribe of Texas, Juan Mancias, will speak of the tribe’s long fight to protect sacred lands and sites at and near Boca Chica. Spanish Interpretation will be provided during the event, along with light refreshments and informational fact sheets. The event is free and open to the public.

The 956 Radical Library is a curated selection of books and articles that examine intersectional social justice issues from their root. Organizaciones de Brownsville presentarán una proyección de película y una mesa redonda sobre los impactos de SpaceX en Boca Chica y el resto del Valle del Río Grande
BROWNSVILLE, TX — El viernes 11 de abril, la Red de Justicia Ambiental del Sur de Texas, Nuestra Delta Mágica y la Biblioteca Radical 956 presentarán una proyección de película y una mesa redonda sobre el impacto de SpaceX en Boca Chica, Brownsville y el resto del Valle del Río Grande. El evento se llevará a cabo en la Librería Buho de 6:00 a 8:00 p.m., ubicada en 1140 E Washington St., Brownsville, TX.
Este evento comenzará con la proyección de una película de 20 minutos sobre la presencia de SpaceX en Brownsville, producida por More Perfect Union, con subtítulos en español. Después de la película, habrá una mesa redonda de una hora centrada en el impacto de SpaceX en la vivienda, el medio ambiente y las tierras sagradas del Valle del Río Grande. Entre los ponentes del panel se encontrarán Gaige Dávila, periodista de investigación local con amplia experiencia en SpaceX y Boca Chica. Abogada ambiental, Marisa Perales, hablará sobre acciones legales relacionadas con el acceso público a la playa de Boca Chica y las solicitudes de permisos de SpaceX. Por último, Juan Mancias, líder de la tribu Carrizo Comecrudo de Texas, hablará sobre la larga lucha de la tribu por proteger las tierras y sitios sagrados en Boca Chica y sus alrededores. Se ofrecerá interpretación al español durante el evento, además de refrigerios y hojas informativas. El evento es gratuito y abierto al público.
