We need to take action to stop dangerous buoys in our Rio Grande.
Homeland Security plans to install 500 miles of border buoys in the Rio Grande, beginning in Brownsville. These buoys pose a serious threat to immigrant lives; they are a death trap that has already been linked to two deaths in the river near Eagle Pass, Texas. The buoys would also be an environmental disaster to our fragile river habitat, which is home to endangered and threatened species.
By design, these buoy structures are extremely dangerous and have the potential to seriously injure or kill people attempting to cross the river.
Sign the Petition to elected officials: Stop the Border Buoys!

Take Action by calling or emailing the County Commissioners
This week, please contact our County Commissioners by phone or email and let them know you oppose the installation of border buoys. Urge the Hidalgo and Cameron County commissioners to stand with our community by passing a resolution opposing the border buoys.

| Hi, my name is ___[NAME]___, and I am a community member from ____[CITY]_____ calling to urge the County to oppose the 500 miles of border buoys in our Rio Grande. I oppose the border buoys because they would destroy our river habitat and be an ecological disaster. These buoys are racist because they are designed to cause harm and have been known to kill people in the past. Collectively, we must all reject further violence caused by the Department of Homeland Security. I ask that the County do right by our community by passing a county resolution demanding the immediate removal of these border buoys and opposing any future installation. Thank you. |
